The workshop will begin with a brief description of how Tkaronto came together
followed by a screening of the film. Tkaronto will then be used as the case study, with
the filmmaker on hand to provide a complete overview of how this low-budget feature
film was assembled. It is the perfect workshop for aspiring independent super-low
budget filmmakers on how to put your film together from script to screen, to festivals,
to press, to theatres, to DVD, and beyond; putting a crew together, getting a cast,
shooting schedules, shot lists, talking spouses into catering duties, and much more ...
on not much more than a credit card.

Shane Belcourt is an award-winning filmmaker, writer, and musician based in Toronto. His debut feature
film, Tkaronto, played many international film festivals, winning the "Best Director" prize at the 2008
Dreamspeakers Film Festival and 2008 Talking Stick Film Festival, sold to a national distributor, played
on Air Canada, and now resides on SuperChannel. Shane's two short films, The Squeeze Box and Pookums
have been picked up and sold to national Canadian TV networks and are featured on Isuma.tv. Alongside
the dramatic work, Shane continues to make documentary films as a director and cinematographer.
